All the Pretty Little Ponies and General Thoughts

Hey everyone! Back when I posted about King Arthur Carrousel, which was actually one of my earliest MYWTM posts, I mentioned that all of the horses have names. Or maybe someone else mentioned it. Or something. Anyway, it was mentioned. Well I finally swung by City Hall and got the list. I was a bit disappointed with said list because I was expecting, I don’t know, some sort of way to tell each horse from the other, but hey, you work with what you got.

All the pretty little ponies

Because my cell phone picture is such high quality and the picture is sideways, I went ahead and re-created the list here just for you. I did it in a table and then posted it from Word, so if it’s all jacked up, then blame WordPress.

Alma Arabian Knight Avanti Baby
Belle Bruce Centurion Checkers
Checkers Jr. Champion Chodis Cinch
Copper Crown Jewel Crusader Dagger
Daisy Dante Duke Eagle Scout
Elinor Elroy Emerald Fern
Flourish Frenchy Galaxy Gypsy
Hal Ivy Jester Jingles
Kaleidoscope King Richard Lance Leprechaun
Lucifer’s Rose Lunatic National Velvet Patches
Pegasus Penny Queenie Rally
Red Devil Renaissance Sapphire Saxon
Screaming Eagle Sea Biscuit Sir Lancelot St. Patrick
Steamer Tartan Tassel Testy Pat
Thistle Tiny Topaz Tulip

Some of these names don’t sound very Disney to me–Red Devil? Lucifer’s Rose? Hal? Just kidding about Hal, by the way. And I did a Google search on “Chodis” and let me tell you, that was NOT what I was expecting (search result is rated R, parental consent is advised). But now if you’ve been burning with the questions of what the carrousel horses’ names are, there ya go.

UPDATE: Thank goodness for my sharp-eyed readers! Jamie says, “I think you may have received a typo on the list, I think the adult sounding horse is claudius. Check them out http://findingmickey.squarespace.com/king-arthurs-carrousel-horses.” And my god, I can’t TELL you how relieved I am that “Chodis” is incorrect. But then it makes me wonder, who would make that kind of typo? On purpose? Hmmm. Anyway, Claudius. Phew.

It’s been busy over here at Chez MYWTM. I have finally finished my critical thesis for my Master’s program and am just waiting for the final sign-off from my advisor before I can print and submit. Which cannot come a moment too soon. I have also been consuming mass quantities of Oreos (Oreos: The Official Snack Food of Shelby’s Thesis) and my waistline is probably going to be pretty happy that that’s over.

It’s holiday time at Disneyland–one of my favorite times of the year. I can’t wait to get into the park to start photographing all of the holiday decorations and attractions. Did I mention I love holiday time at Disneyland? Because I do. The “snow” after the fireworks show gets me choked up every time. However, the holidays also may mean a bit fewer posts here at MYWTM. Best thing to do is head over there —-> and subscribe to MYWTM with your email address. You’ll get a lovely little message every time I update and you can easily click on over to see all that MYWTM has to offer. Alternatively, or both, you can follow me on Facebook. I always update Facebook when there’s a new post.

I’m also a bit depressed to mention that I’m not going to make my initial goal of Doing Everything by the end of the year. I forgot to go on Splash Mountain when it was warm out and I’m not doing a water ride in the Fall/Winter, so…sorry. I also neglected to document the pre-holiday Haunted Mansion, and I’m sure there are other things I managed to miss along the way that I can’t do now.

There is some good news though–we have decided to renew our passes for another year, so MYWTM lives on!!! Next year I believe I will start reporting on the Mouse-Next-Door as well, so there will be lots of fun content in the upcoming months.

I hope all of you are getting ready for the joyous holiday season! Happy Turkey Day and Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa/Solstice, and of course, Festivus for the rest of us! Okay, I know the holiday greetings are a little premature, but I don’t want to forget them.

Shelby, you’re making your followers a lot happier by not making your initial goal of Doing Everything by the end of the year, because we were going to miss your MYWTM blog. Will you change your blog title to MTYWTM — My Two Years With The Mouse?

Finishing your critical thesis, in addition to raising Theo, being married, and blog writing, sounds like you’ve been incredibly busy. Congratulations on completing your thesis! And happy Thanksgiving.

    Still giggling over “Testy Pat”.
I look forward to another year of your adventures at Disney!

I’m really happy you’re renewing your passes! I get to live vicariously through you for another year (as I shiver in -29C windchill in northern Canada).

I was hoping you’d end up renewing your passes. Looking forward to more posts. Can’t wait till I can get up to the park for Christmas decorations.

Hurray! Looking forward to another year of posts!

I don’t blame you for not wanting to do Splash Mountain in the cold weather. I wouldn’t do it either! Glad you’re renewing. Yay for more MYWTM!

I think I *might* have been the one that mentioned the horses were named. Katie rides on Champion or Jingles every_single_time……….or we wait for the next round so she can ride on her favorites. Champion is one the opposite side from the holding pen, on the edge, with a pink ribbon through the mane, and large jewels on the saddle blanket (can you see why Princess Katie is in love????)

We will be there Tuesday in the early afternoon to watch El Dorado Golden Hawks march from Small World to Main Street at 2:25, right before my favorite parade.

So glad you have renewed!!! I would miss your awesome photography and muses about one of my favorite places on the planet

We were at DL last Wednesday, but didn’t get to Splash Mountain until it was getting dark and was starting to get cold. There was absolutely no line, and when the cast member asked where we wanted to sit, I joked “the dry seats!” She offered to let me and my two sons ride alone in a log, which would then weigh less and produce less splashing. It worked out great – we got misted and splashed a bit but no one was very wet at all. So it can be done – you just need no line and a friendly cast member.

In general, if you sit in the back of the log you will not get as wet. I think if you are in the back, and small children are in front, you can still get pretty wet. We almost always ask to sit in the back because we love the ride, but don’t like being soaked.

Yay! I am so glad you are going to continue this blog! I was feeling sad that is was coming to a close. Also mad props for the reference to the Peter, Paul and Mary song!

Congrats on your thesis! Very impressive. I am working on finally getting my degree, so understand how much work it is when you’re raising a family. So glad you’ll be continuing MYWTM! Re: Ponies- Chodis? Oh my! I did look that up. Not very Disney like to be sure.

Happy Holidays to you and your family!

So very glad you’ve decided to renew your passes and continue with this awesome blog! I thoroughly enjoy reading what you write, love your ‘sassy style’. Living where I do in northern Canada, I can only dream of my next visit to Disneyland so your blog lets me have a little magic between visits. Thank you, Shelby!
