Santa’s Reindeer Roundup

Now that you’re in the holiday spirit…

Oh wait, what? You’re not? It’s January? Well, whatever. I’m still catching up on holiday posts.

Santa’s Reindeer Roundup is located in the Big Thunder Ranch area, and I posted a little bit about it before but I’m adding it now because we actually took Theo back there.

I have NO idea what that kid is doing

Outside of the trail there’s a sleigh that many people take pictures on and often some characters appear back there. It was closed when we were there.

It's actually a really beautiful sleigh

Anyway, back to the reindeer. The reindeer roundup is sponsored by Brawny paper towels.

Because when you’re cleaning up after a reindeer, you really don’t want to use bargain paper towels.

Brawny is not "the quicker picker-upper" however, so reindeer cleanup might be slow

There are real reindeer in the reindeer area!

The signs tell you who's in the pen

Theo loved them. He really wanted to pet them, but in the end was content to just wave at them.

HI REINDEER! I'M THEO!

I tried to get cute pictures of the reindeer, but they all turned out like this one.

Reindeer butts!

Ah well, the one facing the camera is cute.

I do have to say, I love the classic, woodsy, traditional feel of this place and its theming, so it was a little disappointing to see a barrier of cheesy cartoonish reindeer.

This is what I mean

But you can’t have everything.

Also back in this area is Santa’s house!

Santa lives in a rustic log cabin! In Disneyland!

The cool thing is that Santa is actually there during the day!

The bummer is that we weren’t there during the day, and Santa had already gone home–the North Pole home, I heard a cast member telling another child–for the night.

So I took a picture through the window.

Insert Santa here

I should Photoshop him in. Nobody would ever know.

Anyway, I fully intended to get a Theo-Santa picture back here, but it never happened. Luckily, there’s next year!!

La Masquerade d’Orleans

Masquerade, paper faces on parade, MASQUERADE!

Oh wait, Disneyland, not Phantom.

Anyway, La Masquerade d’Orleans is another one of those great little stores in New Orleans Square. It has a very cool sign.

It's like, all glowy and stuff

A closer look reveals that there’s more writing at the bottom. I can’t read it.

With the flash

Without the flash

Yep, no clue. Anyone know? Next time I’m going to take notes. Seriously, blogger fail.

Ah well, you still love me anyway, right?

Right?

Any, La Masquerade d’Orleans has some cool exterior decorations.

These make me swoon

And I’ll just interrupt a second here to say that I really would love to go to New Orleans sometime. I’ll put it on my list. And while I’m interrupting myself, I also have to say that I really hate the term “bucket list.” I don’t know why it grinds on me so strongly. Maybe because we have no idea when we’re going to kick the bucket, so it gives the impression that you’re only going to die after you do these things. Or maybe I just don’t like the term “kick the bucket.” Or maybe it’s that movie that I never saw that just irritates me. Anyway, I call my list “things I really want to do,” and going to New Orleans is on there.

Ahem.

I was hoping this store would carry, you know, like Mardi Gras masks and stuff, but unfortunately they don’t. The merchandise is basically pins, Vinylmation, and small knickknacks. And can you believe spell check just gave a thumbs up to “knickknacks”?

Pins?

Vinylmation?

There are, however, cool details if you care to look around.

I want this light fixture

Especially if you look up.

Window adornments are always fabulous

And finally, a mask!

Yay!

I think it would be so cool if Disneyland just sold Mardi Gras masks in there. I mean, I would probably even buy one, and I’m cheap! Just think of it–a mask store at Disneyland. *sigh*

Le Bat En Rouge

New Orleans Square is a little tucked-away area that few appreciate. Most people know it as “that place you walk through when you get off of Pirates of the Caribbean and also when you eat at the Blue Bayou.” But Walt designed it to be an actual street—well, couple of streets, and they’re especially cool at night.  There’s a hidden court back there that I will blog about later, and several stores. One opening on the court is Le Bat En Rouge.

Is that an awesome sign or what?

The signs in New Orleans Square are all pretty cool, and this one is no exception.

Le Bat en Rouge is a tiny store located on a corner with a supercool exterior.

I love this

Now you’d expect Le Bat En Rouge to carry lots of red items, but it doesn’t really.

Rather uninspiring

It’s just a small clothing store without very much theming inside, unlike most of the other stores. I didn’t get a chance to really take a lot of pictures in there, so you’ll have to deal with these. Sorry!

Here’s what it looks like from the hidden court.

Ah well, at least the front is cool.

Bench

If you know anything about the history of Disneyland, you know that Walt used to love spending time with his daughters at Griffith Park in Los Angeles, and it was there that he dreamed of a family park. One without, presumably, litter all over the ground. Now over by the Disney Gallery, there’s a bench.

Look how nicely displayed it is!

Just in case you should doubt its authenticity, there’s the plaque.

"Walt Disney sat here!"

There’s also a carousel horse from the carousel there, which is where Walt got the idea for King Arthur Carrousel.

Except without litter on the ground.

Anyway, I didn’t take a picture of that, but I took a picture of this

Get yer fresh roasted peanuts!

Apparently they used to sell those at Griffith Park. And at first I wondered why they don’t sell them at Disneyland, but I thought well, maybe it’s because they don’t want all of those peanut shells all over their litter-free ground?
